Tbilisi Court of Appeals on 28 April upheld the ruling of the City Court which bans former Defense Minister, Irakli Okruashvili to run as mayoral candidate in Gori for the upcoming self-governance elections.
Okruashvili appealed the ruling of Tbilisi City Court which upheld the decision of the Central Election Commission of Georgia.
On 22 April the CEC annulled an order, according to which the Gori District Election Commission registered Okruashvili as Gori mayoral candidate. The CEC discussed the topic of registration of Okruashvili following the appeal of the head of the Justice for Georgia movement, Sergo Javakhadze. Javakhadze claimed that since Okruashvili has not lived in Georgia for the last two years, he could not run for the mayor's position, according to the Georgian legislation.
