Project “Training program for representatives of City Councils in Georgia” – financed by “Open Society Georgia” foundation. 2002 year.
The project aimed to increase effectiveness of local self-government, throw development of skills and abilities of newly elected officials.
Project Activities:
1. Training program of chairmen and secretaries of 17 town councils.
2. 3-day training session for council chairmen and secretaries.
The participants of the training, with their own initiative, decided to create self-government Union, which united not only the members of the board, but also governors of the cities. As a result of this initiative, in April 2003 took place the constituent assembly of Georgia’s self-governments.
The project: "Introducing municipal elections legislation of June 2, 2002"
Donor: US Agency for International Development (USAID) project "Public participation in local government activities" carried out by the Urban Institute.
Project goal: Raising public awareness on the local self-government system and electoral process before municipal elections legislation of June 2, 2002 .
Activities: On April 2002 seminars were held in five cities of Georgia: Lagodekhi, Mtskheta, Zestaponi, Poti, Ozurgeti, where participants were introduced to the Election Code and the Organic Law of the Local self-government news and nuances. The seminar was attended by the Sakrebulo membership and governor candidates, commission members, representatives of the mass media and NGOs.
The project: “Identifying the needs of the training programs of the 5 cities of Georgia"
Donor: US Agency for International Development (U S AID) project "Public participation in local government activities" carried out by the Urban Institute.
Project goal: to promote the planning of training programs for local self-government bodies
Implemented work:
In 5 cities of Georgia - Poti, Zestaponi, lagodekhi, Ozurgeti and Mtskheta was conducted a research for detecting training program needs. Needs identification was conducted using the method of focus group research. The study was conducted in three focus groups in each city (Sakrebulo members, representatives of local executive bodies, the public sector (NGO and mass media) representatives).
At the end of the study was prepared analytical documents and recommendations.
