Irakli Gharibashvili – The government does everything to enable all parties to have a full-fledged election campaign
The government of Georgia does everything to enable all parties to have a full-fledged election campaign the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili said while meeting an NDI delegation.
The Prime Minister’s press service informs that the main topics discussed were preparing for the local elections, activity of the political spectrum and election environment.
The Prime Minister informed the delegation about the declared moratorium on legal proceedings against those involved in the election campaign and said that the goal of the government is to conduct democratic, free and fair elections.
Per Eklund, former ambassador and former head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia; Sam Gejdenson, former ranking member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the NDI Board; Robert Adams, international elections and democratization expert for Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Electoral Reform International Services (ERIS); Laura Jewett, NDI regional director for Eurasia are all in the NDI delegation.
The meeting was also attended by Luis Navarro, NDI senior resident country director in Georgia, head of parliamentary program of Georgian office of NDI Nino Vardosanidze and deputy chief of chancellery of the government of Georgia Nino Kobakhidze.
The National Democratic Institute (NDI) delegation that visited Georgia on April 27 will conduct a pre-election assessment mission focused on Georgia's local government elections scheduled for June 15.
The delegation will hold meetings with government officials, candidates, political party leaders, election authorities, representatives of civil society and the international community.
